Electric Vehicles and the BMW i3 David Bricknell eBook
Download As PDF : Electric Vehicles and the BMW i3 David Bricknell eBook
This is a book about Electric Vehicles and, in particular, the BMW i3. It covers the performance and technical information useful to the growing Electric Vehicle community that are different to those of an Internal Combustion Engine car, including Dynamics, Battery, Charging, Motors and Drives, Cooling and Heating, and Range Extender.

If you’re after a more technical understanding of electric cars, this brilliant ebook by David Bricknell is a fascinating in-depth look at the inner workings of an electrified car. The author’s impressive engineering background in shipbuilding and hybridisation shows, but the book has far wider appeal. The book attempts to describe the fundamentals of what makes an EV and attempts to make a hugely complex topic accessible to a wide audience. It makes for compulsive tech-geek reading and is thoroughly recommended no matter whether you already own an EV, want one or are interested in how they work.

Whether you're an i3 owner, a data junkie, or just an all around an electric vehicle enthusiast, I believe you'll find the book very interesting and extremely informative. There's so many technical details in there, I bet the BMW engineers who designed the i3 could learn something by reading it! Electric vehicles are very different than the cars we've all gotten used to driving. The more information we have on these vehicles the better understood they'll be, which will lead to faster adoption.

This book is a great read for any EV owner not just for us i3 folk. I have learnt even more about my car through this book. David Bricknell goes into the technical details more than most. His scientific style, uses numerous diagrams and graphs, along with clear explanations about the many intricacies of electric cars making concepts that are new to most motoring enthusiasts, clearly understandable. While centered on the brilliant BMW i3, there are lots of references to, and explanations about, others EVs as well making this book important for anyone considering the purchase of an electric car. Particularly relevant, comprehensive and well explained are the sections on that core aspect of electric cars, the battery. Issues of capacity, chemistry, longevity, temperature, charging and management are now even better understood, yet I have been driving an i3 for 18 months. Thanks to David for his work on this text.

I'm two weeks out from delivery of a 2018 i3s Rex and after spending 100+ hrs reading every EV forum imaginable trying to get EV literate, this book added on to the necessary engineering (probably way more than you "need" to know) bits about the BMW i3. If you are somewhat of an EV nerd and need to know everything about this car, you have found a good book! It will help you quantify the "it depends" answers to range, charging speed, temperature affects, etc. while comparing the way the BMW does things to Tesla, Nissan, Kia, etc. Cool knowledge to have and share with all of the EV onlookers. You can tell BMW and the author have done their homework but I'd love to see this book get updated for the i3s and 120 ah versions. Still great info though and pretty easy to extrapolate/guess how the newer models will behave.
FYI... If your having problems seeing the whole graphs on the kindle version, just pinch to zoom or rotate your phone 90 degrees. If you want to see the graphs in color, use a device that has a color screen! Obviously the e-reader paper readers aren't going to be in color but everything was in color on my phone.

Electric Vehicles and the BMW i3 David Bricknell eBook Reviews
The book is filled with information about the i3 that isn't available anywhere else. You don't have to be an i3 owner to appreciate the amount of technical details that Davids put together here. I definitely recommend getting a copy if you're interested in electric cars.
It has less content on BMW i3 specification. It is real fake.
An easy to understand, but in depth book with much info on EV's. A must read and reference for owners and people who want to understand batteries.
Having recently purchased an I3 ReX, I sat down and read the whole book in one sitting. I'm sure I'll be back for more in-depth study in the future. It's a very well-written and well-researched book!
Everybody owning or thinking of buying a BMW i3 should read this well written book.
I learnt a lot about the electric vehicle I will soon get.
And the book also made me become more interested in the technical side of battery electric vehicles in general.
A technical approach to various components of the i3. Interesting facts like turning the AC light to off will not turn the compressor off necessarily!
The book contains excellent material and is very well written but the format eliminates the color of the graphs and the graphs are cut off on the right margin. Poor presentation. Does any body know where a paper copy can be obtained?
